A. About the Tours
To enjoy fun cars we have, we need fun roads to drive on! That’s why we are in Hakone, a mecca of car enthusiasts near Mt. Fuji. Combined, the cars and roads constitute a real fun2drive experience.
Only 2 hours from Tokyo, Fun2Drive is conveniently located at a gateway to the greatest winding roads in Japan. Here, a number of great and legendary fun cars are awaiting fo you. As soon as getting behind the wheel, you can drive on a variety of winding roads while enjoying stunning scenery of Mt. Fuji, landscapes, lakes, oceans, etc…
For all car enthusiasts to best enjoy our cars, we have prepared guided tours, whereby you actually drive a Fun2Drive car by yourself while being led by our pace car on a variety of mountain passes. Whichever tour you choose to participate in, you will have a once-in-a-life-time fun2drive experience!
On a tour, you will be driving in convey while being led by a pace car that our experienced guide drives. Radio transmissions will be used for timely communications among the participants and guide. The guide will lead you to ensure safety of the roads ahead, and adjust the pace in accordance with the participants’ skills/requests, road/weather conditions, and any other factors to keep the tour as enjoyable as possible;)
You are basically authorized to drive only the car you choose to participate in a tour. However, you can drive other participant’s car(s) if he/she properly registers you as an additional driver to his/her participating car(s). Given that, a lot of our customers have come in as a group, chosen a different car for each group member, and registered each other as an additional driver so that they can enjoy driving/swapping multiple cars.
Yes, your friends and family are welcome to ride together free of charge as long as your car’s capacity allows. Children are welcome and we have a rental child seat available. However, for safety reasons we do not recommend children under the age of 24 months attend this tour. Pets are not allowed.
Yes, they can if they are properly registered as additional drivers beforehand, at JPY3,000 for each additional driver per car. The number of additional drivers allowed is unlimited for Private Custom Guided Tours, 3 for Ultimate Hakone Drive, 2 for Holy Mt. Fuji Drive and none for Comparative Drive.
Yes, you can hire multiple cars as a group. You can swap the cars among the group members if the members are properly registered as additional drivers beforehand, at JPY3,000 for each additional driver per car. The number of additional drivers allowed is unlimited for Private Custom Guided Tours, 3 for Ultimate Hakone Drive, 2 for Holy Mt. Fuji Drive and none for Comparative Drive.
Because of our insurance policy, we restrict any other camera or video equipment in the cars. For more details, please consult our guide on the day of your tour.
You can purchase food and drinks during the tour. We ask you to refrain from having them when driving, though. Alcohol is not permitted.
Fun2Drive is open even in the rain. Our cars are equipped with tires to handle driving in any conditions. However, in the event the weather is so bad it is deemed unsafe to conduct a tour, Fun2Drive will either postpone your experience waiting for acceptable conditions or reschedule your experience for a date and time in the future.
Yes, it will be conducted in English.
B. Requirements
Our services are exclusive to Fun2Drive members, and overseas residents and/or non-Japanese nationals are required to present the following documents for membership:
– Home driver’s license
– International driving permit based on the 1949 Geneva Convention or equivalent (N/A to a Japanese driver’s license holder)
– Passport (to be pledged during your rental)
You don’t have to be a member when yet requesting for availability and quote. Instructions for membership will be provided as part of booking procedures.
You must be 18 years of age and have a valid drivers license to participate in a tour.
Yes, you do except for certain cars equipped with paddle shifters.
To book a tour as a surprise gift, you’re required to complete instructed booking procedures, including membership registration and down payment. A surcharge of JPY2,000 applies for such an arrangement.
Not necessarily. Only one unique member is required per each car. An appropriately registered additional driver can drive as long as he/she has his passport, home driver’s license, and international driving permit (or equivalent) with him on the day.
C. Booking
It starts with a request form. Once you fill in the form, we will provide you with availability and quote via email, which also contains instructions for 2 booking procedures:
1. Down payment of JPY1,000 via credit/debit card
2. Membership registration/renewal if applicable
We will send you a booking conformation once the procedures are properly completed.
We can wait on your passport and/or international driving permit under certain circumstances. You’re required to submit all at least two weeks before your reservation.
Subject to availability, your reservation may be re-scheduled or cancelled up to 30 days prior to the reservation with no fee. Re-scheduling or cancelling between 30 and one day before the reservation is subject to a 50% surcharge, and re-scheduling or cancelling within 24 hours of the reservation as well as no-shows will result in 100% forfeiture.
If you are not flexible in your plan, we strongly recommend that you book a tour as soon as possible. Please be advised, though, that we’re currently taking reservations only for the next 90 days due to uncertainties under the spread of COVID-19.

As we start each tour punctually, please make sure to come well in advance for your tour.
For booking, your credit/debit card is required for a down payment of JPY1,000. The remaining balance is to be paid by CASH ONLY on your reservation day.
Due to our limited capability, we can provide you with pick-up/drop-off services only within a 3km radius.

E. Price
Auto insurance, tour guide fee, and tax are included, while gasoline and tolls for rental car are excluded.
Approximate total cost of gasoline and tolls for Standard Tours is as follows:
– Ultimate/Core Hakone Drive: JPY8,000
– Holy Mt. Fuji Drive: JPY5,000
– Swift Hakone Drive: JPY3,000
– Flash Hakone Drive: JPY1,500 per each session
Such cost for Custom Tours depends on where, how, and how long you drive.
You may purchase options as follows:
– Reduction of Deductibles (Excesses)
– An Additional Driver
F. Others
Yes, basic auto insurance is included. In the event of an accident, the following shall be covered by the customer:
– Deductible (excess) of JPY200,000* for damage to third party’s property
– Deductible (excess) of JPY200,000* for damage to the rental car
– Any amount of damage that is not paid for by insurance company due to one’s gross negligence and so forth
– A Non-Operation Charge (NOC) of JPY100,000 if the rental car is drivable, and JPY200,000 if it is not drivable
* There is an option to reduce the deductibles (excesses)
You could hire a certain car(s) without guide, should you be over 26 years old and agree to certain terms and conditions. Please be advised, though, that our cars are primarily held for guided tours, and therefore, we do not accept any request for unguided car rental beyond a specified period.
